I was always intrigued by this group's choice of album covers, it isn't every day that you see high quality space photos in this genre despite the rise of "cosmic" black metal. But the music blew me away, this sounds like Austere took the atmospheric spacey route. (I will assume it's a coincidence that both bands are Australian)

Savante concoction de depressive suicidal black metal et death/doom metal, The Cold Night nous engage dès les premières minutes avec des riffs apparemment simples mais terriblement accrocheurs, encore plus quand on arrive sur "I Hate Everything" ou encore "Ocean of Sorrow" dont la conclusion part carrément sur un death metal rapide. Yu adopte un chant fidèle au genre avec ces cris décharnés, tout en faisant preuve de petites audaces (je vous laisse découvrir ça sur "The Path to the End").

L'esthétique choisie par Yu est très bien mené. The Autumn ne déroge pas à la règle de faire du DSBM et témoigne d'une force indéniable pour ce qui est de composer ces riffs mélancoliques au possible ; "The Autumn Moon" en est un très bon exemple avec son système de répétitions. Yu crie avec une voix traînante de mort-vivant. Il ne se contente pas de suivre bêtement une recette : paysages gris, ternes, c'est vrai, mais un certain désir d'introspection et d'observation de la nature.
